I am asking Mayor Biss and the City Council to pass a unanimous motion censuring Northwestern for removing mention of diversity and inclusion from their website. Not only is this a cowardly move, but it goes against what our city says it stands for. Evanston passed the nation’s first reparations law and prides itself on promoting diversity in all aspects of city life. Northwestern, a major Evanston institution, should exemplify our values and not give in to external pressure. They need to be called out for failing to do so.
