Evanston Township High School officially launched its search for a new principal on Monday, March 3, with their first work day set for July 1.

This announcement comes after current Principal and Assistant Superintendent Taya Kinzie told staff and families last month that she’s stepping down at the end of this school year to open a private practice as a social worker. Kinzie will continue in her role until June 30.

“My commitment to ETHS and the Evanston community remains steadfast, and I will continue to uphold our shared values as a proud and engaged Evanston community member and as a social worker in private practice,” she wrote in an email to colleagues.

Launching the search

Scott Bramley, the associate superintendent for human resources and administrative services, is leading the search for Kinzie’s replacement.

“The district seeks a leader whose leadership will uphold ETHS’s mission and ensure a continuation of the school’s tradition of excellence,” the school said in a Monday morning press release. “ETHS is dedicated to a thoughtful, inclusive hiring process that reflects the diversity, values, and priorities of our school community.”

The online posting for the position is already live and will only be up until Friday, March 7. The listed salary range is $190,000-$225,000, depending on experience.

Between now and March 12, the district is also inviting the community to respond to a survey in English or Spanish to help point the hiring team in the right direction when it comes to the qualities that residents would like to see in a principal.

The school will also get input from students and staff at several listening sessions scheduled for next week — one for staff from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 in room N112, and another for students at the same time Tuesday, March 13 also in room N112.

The hiring team said it intends to use feedback from these surveys and listening sessions to help guide the search, along with an advisory committee of students and teachers that will participate in candidate interviews later in the process.

Superintendent Marcus Campbell will interview finalists and plans to present his candidate recommendation to the school board at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7.

“District 202 looks forward to engaging the community in this important decision,” the district wrote. “At the same time, the district expresses its gratitude to Dr. Taya Kinzie for her many years of service to ETHS and wishes her the best as she takes the next step in her career.”
