The Dittmar Gallery will examine the process of transformation with a new group exhibition featuring works by Northwestern students and local community members.
“Metamorphosis: The Art of Transformation” opens Thursday, Feb. 13 and continues through Monday, March 10. The gallery is in the Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive on Northwestern University’s Evanston campus.
Co-curated by Elyse Malamud, student supervisor and registrar and Gabby Gutierrez, exhibition and gallery technician assistant at Dittmar, the exhibit includes artists of various media who are stretching the boundaries of art to tell stories of change, evolution and transformation.
“The laws of physics state that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, all artistic media — paints, fabrics, papers — have gone through a process of metamorphosis to unite as a finished work of art,” Malamud said.
“The exhibition questions how the evolution of art can mirror the evolution of ourselves and the world,” Gutierrez said.
Dittmar Gallery will host a reception with the artists from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13. For more information visit the Dittmar Gallery website.
