The district-wide spelling bee filled Chute Middle School’s auditorium on Tuesday afternoon with an enthusiastic audience listening spellbound as 16 fourth- to eighth-graders, who were the winners at their respective school’s spelling bees, competed to become Evanston/Skokie District 65 champion.

It took 12 rounds for Cecily Lewis to emerge as this year’s winner after she correctly spelled “taxonomic” (adjective mainly Biology concerned with the classification of things, especially organisms: the taxonomic diversity of bees | extensive taxonomic sampling.)

This was Cecily’s second time winning the District 65 Spelling Bee, and she is now moving on to the north Cook County regional qualifier.
